What is Grid Trading?
Grid trading is an automated quantitative strategy that places a ladder of buy and sell orders at predefined intervals within a set price channel, systematically capitalizing on market volatility.
Why calculate Grid Profit?
If you create too many grids within a tight price range, the profit generated by the price moving from one grid to the next might be less than the exchange trading fees. You must always ensure your "Net Profit per Grid" is positive after accounting for both the Buy fee and the Sell fee.
The Math Explained
The total investment is divided across all your grids. Every time the price drops to a grid line, it buys a fraction of the coin. When it rises to the next line, it sells that exact fraction. Your profit is the price difference between those two lines, minus the fee paid to open the order and the fee paid to close it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if the price breaks above or below my grid range? expand_more
When price exceeds the Upper Limit, 100% of your initial base crypto asset has been converted into USDT/quote currency, pausing all executions until price re-enters. Conversely, if price drops below the Lower Limit, your bot has executed all buy orders and holds 100% of the base crypto asset in unrealized loss.
What is the minimum recommended grid spacing to stay profitable after exchange fees? expand_more
As a general institutional baseline, grid spacing should never drop below 2.5x your exchange's round-trip taker rate. On standard 0.10% tiers, a minimum grid step of 0.25% to 0.35% is required to clear slippage, exchange fees, and tick micro-drag.
Arithmetic vs Geometric grid: Which is better for volatile crypto markets? expand_more
Arithmetic grids divide the range with identical price tick increments (e.g. $200 each), making them ideal for tight ranges. Geometric grids maintain a constant percentage ratio between levels, which provides superior performance across wide multi-month macro price ranges spanning 100%+ swings.
How does exchange VIP fee tiers impact grid profitability? expand_more
Because grid trading is high-frequency market making, reducing fees from 0.10% to 0.02% via exchange token staking or VIP tiers immediately increases your net grid profit margin by over 300% on narrow grid setups.
